Webinar Goal #3

Integrating Web 2.0 tools into the VLE (in appearance) - Next Page - Goal 4

Truthiness: you really can't "integrate" these tools into your VLE, at least not in the way that I usually use that term. True integration would feature single sign-on, results synched to a gradebook, and that sort of thing. Unfortunately, that is one of the problems with almost all of the mainstream VLE as they stand today- the lack of our ability to ingtegrate them with anything.

So, what I'm going to try to do here is give you a glimpse of what a brighter future might look like. I'll give examples of what a Web 2.0-ish VLE might try to incorporate in the future.  Don't try this at home - unless you're the adventurous type.

1) First, what would an integrated photo editor look like? Something like this shot of Picnik embedded into D2L.

2) What about word processing, spreadsheet, and other "old-school office" tools?

then just "switch" from Word Processor to spreadsheet (etc.)

3) How about a real wiki (not the lame ones developed as part of the VLE)?

4) How about an embedded search tool, such as the Creative Commons search page so that students can also learn a bit about copyright and sharing and all that good stuff?
